Soy Amado blocks

Two scrappy blocks going to Alison of http://littleislandquilting.blogspot.com/ in the UK for her Soy Amado (you are loved) quilts that she sends to Mexico. Thank you, Alison, for doing this!    

Playing with orphan blocks...

 and trying to achieve a modern look.

 I have quite a number of other random blocks, I don't know how to lay them out, though.  Negative space, sashing, solids?

Here's a pile of other choices.  Also, my right hand, which is in a brace from carpal tunnel surgery I had this past Tuesday.  In two weeks, the left side gets the same treatment.  Not a lot of sewing going on, unfortunately, thus the playing with already-pieced miscellaneous blocks.

I knew when I chose these fabrics that I didn't love them together, but went ahead anyway. Now I'm not sure if I like this quilt or hate it. Thanks to Smith-Appleby House Museum for the setting.

This pattern is a mystery quilt from Bonnie Hunter.  Fun but LOTS of pieces and cutting.

To enlarge or not to enlarge, that's the question.

 This quilt top is on my waterbed (thus the lumpiness) right now.  It's for my son's good friend and I'm trying to decide whether or not to put some borders on it.  I actually should find out what size his bed is - duh!

This is the "Nifty Thrifty" pattern from Scraps & Shirttails, one of Bonnie Hunter's books.  It's all men's shirts that I picked up here and there.  I'm sure I showed you some blocks somewhere along the way.  I hope to finish it this Saturday at the RI Modern Quilting Guild's Sewing Day at Ryco, or at least come close to completion.

Re-covering

I know (or rumor has it) that it's national quilting day.  I'm not quilting just yet, 

 but I recovered this ugly fabric on this toy box my dear brother made for my kids when they were little.

I had this Ikea fabric in my stash and I think this is a good use for it.  It compliments the curtains which are not in the photo.  And what's not to love about fresh basil and parsley - spring's a coming!
