Back sometime in the summer Melissa invited me to join her face-making group at a quilt shop on the Cape called Tumbleweed Quilts. I was so pleased and surprised, I just had to drop everything and get there!
What a blast I had, after a fashion. My creative side, if I even have one, must have stayed home, but Melissa was so kind, patient, and such a good teacher.
I had such trouble letting go of "how I thought a face SHOULD look". Ugh.
Hers come together so effortlessly, it seemed to me.
This one above, and the one below, are all some of hers in the making.
These next two are mine. I really like them, especially when viewed from a bit of a distance.
The only problem is, when I got home, I hung them on my design wall, and a couple of
days later, flicked on the switch for my ceiling fan, which just so happened to be on HIGH! Oh, no! My faces went flying around the room! Or at least some parts of them. Good thing I have pictures because, sort of like humpty-dumpty, I could not possibly put them back together again. But I will, some day, and I WILL, some day, finish them up. Then I will need to scour Melissa's IG and blog to figure out how to stitch them down and quilt them, and all that finish work.
Thanks, Melissa, for inviting me to such a fun, creative day, and it was so nice to meet you again!

Log cabin within a log cabin
I took a bunch of great photos of this quilt on the beach, but I'm having technical difficulties and can't seem to get them onto my blog.
Anyway, I'm sure this has been done before, and you might not be able to see it, but the very center block is a log cabin, and then I continued with wide strips all the way around. The quilt finishes at about 46" square-ish. I don't think any of my quilts are ever truly square, and that's all right with me.
The back is all Anna Maria Horner velveteen, which I did not take a picture of, yet. And I'm going to sell it! So, if anyone is interested, it's nice and snuggly for a baby girl. I FMQ'd it in concentric circles.
More pics to follow, hopefully.

Matunuck Beach in South Kingstown.
Love this Anna Maria Horner velveteen. Soft and warm and luxurious!
My sister-in-law's beachhouse. My husband thought we should use it as a backdrop. Ooookay.

House quilt
My sister-in-law requested a quilt for her beach house, so here it is:
It's large enough to fit on her queen-size bed, and hangs over on each side by about 1 1/2 houses. So these pictures are deceiving, but it's BIG.
Sometimes I like my backs better, and this is one of those times. Many of these smaller houses on the back were made by RI Modern Quilt Guild members in a bee I participated in.
I tried to mimic the beach. White sand, beach houses, seaweed, ocean, and deeper ocean.

And the label.

Sujata's giveaway!
Hi everyone! I'm still here, busy, busy, sewing some, gardening some, working most :-( trying to keep my priorities in order.
But I have to tell you about Sujata Shah's giveaway for her book! And check out Amy Butler's new line of fabric - so pretty! Here's the link:

And here's a shot of one of Sujata's quilts - gorgeousness, don't you agree?

"Fading light" postage stamp quilt
I took these pictures in the fading light of dusk.
My idea in making this quilt was to go gradually from light to darkor dark to light, but I was also attempting to only use scraps and not cut into anything larger
than a scrap. The backing is Philip Jacobs, I think?
It's going to a good friend at work. Tomorrow is the last day we will work together as I am being transferred to a different county. We will miss each other - we've been lunchtime walking partners, among many other things we have in common.
I have been spending some time on Instagram and neglecting my blog. I hope to get back here more often, though.

Finn's Heather Ross Goldfish quilt
I finished this quilt for my grandson, Finn Wilder, back in 2013 but forgot to take pictures, so
his mom, my daughter, did the posing with it, and her husband, Blueflash, did the honors of snapping
these shots.
This quilt was a lot of fun to make. It's very similar to Ezra's that I made back in 2010.
Ashley gave a general tutorial on how to make this quilt.
I think the goldfish are adorable. I realize I owe Finn a pillow to match his quilt!

Waterfront Park Layers of Charm Quilt from Fat Quarter Shop
I have four layer cakes and I'm determined to use them up. So this is the first of four.
I don't usually make the same pattern more than once, but this one is quick and easy and I might do just that. The pattern only uses 36 pieces of the layer cake, but I'm using all 42, thus the cut off blocks on the right side. Like I always say, the bigger the better!

Another Postage stamp quilt
Ignore the messy sewing room - ugh. And I must have taken this at the wrong time of day because the colors are all washed out. Yes, the fabrics are muted, but not this muted.
For a few years I had it in my heart and mind to make a quilt for a dear young mom, also my daughter's friend. She's a sweet woman with a Godly husband and a darling young daughter, Mykenzie, and a son, Zachary, who is now home with his Heavenly Father after blessing his mom and dad for 18 days. I think of him and his little family often, offering up prayers for peace and comfort for them.
I know they will enjoy this quilt, hopefully for many years.

Modern sampler quilt
This lap size quilt went to a dear friend whom I have been neglecting lately :-(
She received it just days before a blizzard hit Rhode Island - I think she likes it, in more ways than one.
Some of my fabric choices were less than stellar. I'm trying to get out of the mode of picking in a hurry. My sewing time is so limited, but I need to slow down anyway and FIND the right mix of fabrics and not just settle, because then there's regret, and regret is a very slippery slope. (Okay, enough philosophizing)
Even so, it's still one of my favorite qujlts!

Sweet vintage baby quilt
A friend, Maria, gave me a bag of fabric and this was in it, still just a top, or flimsy :-)
Her daughter Theresa made it quite some time ago. It seems like some of the fabric was curtains in another life (I forgot to ask her), but
I just had to finish it up and give it back to her. She puts lots of work into those little flowers/baskets. So cuuute! Maybe it's for the best that you can't see my machine quilting very well - ha! The backing fabric was also in the bag - it's a nice soft flowery yellow. I got lazy and did a self-binding by simply turning the backing fabric over onto the front and stitching it down. I'm sure she'll find some little baby to gift it to.
