Michael Miller Petal Pinwheels Challenge quilt

I belong to the Rhode Island Modern Quilt Guild.  Some of us received Petal Pinwheel fabric from Michael Miller.  We could make anything we wanted, the only requirement was it had to be quilted and we could only use MM fabric, or any solid.  The RIMQG requirement was that we use at least 25 percent negative space.
I was able to meet those challenges, but the FMQ in the negative space was difficult for me.
I'm calling the quilt "Fun in the Sun".
I tried to quilt a little pebbly road starting from the bottom and getting smaller as it went up the quilt.  Not sure how it comes across, but, it's done, finally!
I usually quilt with much more space in-between the lines because I like a soft quilt rather than stiff.  This may hang on a wall somewhere, though, so it doesn't really matter.
Did any of YOU take the Michael Miller Challenge?  If so, I'd love to see what you came up with.

  1. This is really nice, Jodi! I'm happy for you to have accepted the challenge, and didn't you learn a lot about quilting negative space? I THOUGHT I was going to participate in the challenge, but sadly, the stack of fabrics is still sitting here. I'm afraid that teaching quiltmaking and quilting makes it obligatory to create sample quilts for lessons. Those took priority over the challenge. I'm happy for you to have joined in though! I hope you found it an educational experience.

  2. Beautiful quilt! It has a personality to it! I love the texture. I too like lightly quilted surfaces for the softness.
